Brent recently experienced "downward mobility." He was demoted. He had worked hard and long. But new owners had new ideas. And Brent was moved from a corner office to a cubicle—from a large private room to a bullpen with entry-level employees.

Brent lost a little prestige, it's true. But he kept his integrity. No longer a top executive—and without his former influence—day after day, Brent came to work. To every task, he gave his best. Not surprisingly, he soon had the respect of everyone around him.

This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. Brent's story illustrates that in God's employee ranking, the person at the desk matters far more than where the desk sits—in the high calling of our daily work.

In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity , seriousness and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us. (Titus 2:7-8)
